SUICIDE PREVENTION - QPR Training

QPR Training stands for Question / Persuade / Refer.  Giving teens and adults the tools to be able to talk with someone who is expressing despair and suicide ideas.  Teens grades 10-12 will be in a separate session from the adults.  Please register for the appropriate one!

we will provide an adjacent area where the children can work on their work, read, or engage in a craft or artwork.  This childcare area will only be made available if attendees let us know they will need it.

THIS IS AN INCREDIBLE CLASS FOR PARENTS ON COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM-SOLVING.

We encourage all families with difficult behaviors, conflict, and generally troubled relationships between parents and children to join us.  This class will teach you special techniques to manage behavior, skills you can apply to any situation.

A FIVE-WEEK commitment is required.

Child-care is provided.

Good for families with children aged 3 and above:  as long as they understand verbal / language commands.

Bring your own device, learn options for protecting your children, how to monitor activity, bring your questions, try to stump our technical expert.

we recommend you discuss with your family before you install and monitor.  Refer to Dr. Farrell's material on trust, collaborative problem solving and contracts.


The Lay of the Land: Schools and Screens

Meet the team working with our kids at Walsh Intermediate.

Discuss the 1:1 ratio, rules and regulations, "what-if" scenarios, how to prepare for when things go wrong.

Put names to faces: school social worker, guidance counselor, IT, digital media, etc.

This will be held at the FACULTY Room in WIS.

The Device and the Law

Join us for a presentation with School Resource Officer about the law in Connecticut, who is held responsible, what are the repercussions of breaking the law depending on the age group.

Discussion and presentation are free and open to the public.

ScreenAgers - Kick-off event - 2018 Series

RAISING HEALTHY FAMILIES IN THE DIGITAL AGE

We're partnering with Branford Public Schools to bring families a series of events to look closely and THOUGHFULLY at the various aspects of digital lives of our children.


The documentary Screenagers touches briefly on the different areas and will be a great start to the discussion.


In February, we'll have expert speaker and cognitive psychologist give us tools for approaching the subject at home, contracts, ways to prepare conversation, etc.


in March, the school will host SRO talking about the legal issues surrounding behaviors online.


April the schools talk about screen time, lay of the land in the school, meet the staff and admin.

We will hold our events on the First Wednesday of Every Month starting at 6:30pm UNLESS PUBLISHED AHEAD OF TIME.  Most of our workshops will run 1.5 hours.

They are all FREE of charge to Branford residents.

Childcare is available.


WE STRONGLY ENCOURAGE YOU TO REGISTER for our events.

We never charge for the workshops!  Anyone can attend!


We also need to know if you will need child-care so you can participate fully.  

If there are events which include the children, we will alert you ahead of time.


When you register, we will ask you for the age or grade the child attends in order to have enough child-care providers and to help us plan activities for them.


We will not share any of this information with anyone!
